Last December, Las Vegas welcomed a total of 6,000 new rooms with the opening of three hotels in The CityCenter complex and now a year later, Vegas has added another 3,000 rooms with the opening of the luxurious Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas on December 15th.

On Wednesday the swanky Cosmopolitan Hotel, costing an estimated $3.9 billion, debuted between the Bellagio and CityCenter and was completed with some extra funding by the current owner Deutsche Bank after a developer dropped out. With rates starting at an estimated $199, The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas was the last Las Vegas resort to receive full funding after it became impossible to finance new casino projects in Las Vegas.

While Las Vegas has certainly been hit hard by the recent economy, Cosmopolitan officals are hopeful that the opening will be timed just right for a successful run in Las Vegas.

"It really is just a moment in time that we've all been working towards, but it's all about the future," said Cosmopolitan's John Unwin. "I can't wait to show people around here."

Starting as early as 4 pm on Wednesday night, hundreds of visitors lined up on The Strip, near the Bellagio to get their first look at this multi-billion dollar Las Vegas hotel.

One visitor from Chicago had this to say about the opening: "I would love to stay -- this is my first time in Vegas. We already checked out of the hotel, why not hang out?"

The official grand opening of The Cosmopolitan is set for December 30, 2010, when hollywood stars will visit the new hotel while Jay-Z and Coldplay entertain the crowd at the invitation-only event.

Couples Say 'I Do' at The Venetian During The Rock 'N Roll Las Vegas Marathon

On Sunday, nearly 60 couples running The Rock ‘n Roll Las Vegas Marathon made a pit stop at The Venetian to exchange or renew their vows amidst the romantic gondolas and picturesque Doge’s Palace Bridge. The 26-mile marathon kicked-off at 7 a.m. with more than 30,000 runners.

Friends, family and onlookers gathered to celebrate the Run Thru Wedding Ceremony held approximately three miles into the course. The ceremony hosted many couples saying “I do” for the first time, while others renewed their vows before heading back to complete the marathon. Among the runners were ABC’s “The Bachelor” alums Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney. The couple was all smiles as they held hands and renewed their vows.

The Venetian marks a memorable place for couple Cliff Jennings and Susan Fryman. “The Venetian is a very special place to us,” said Fryman. After first meeting during a marathon in Venice, Italy, Jennings proposed to Fryman on a gondola at The Venetian and today said “I do” overlooking the outdoor Grand Canal.

Sarah Reinertsen, the first female leg amputee to complete an Ironman Triathlon, and her husband also renewed their vows last Sunday.
